Contract Manufacturing Services

Offering custom sensing and fluid-control systems, a company provides contract design, development, and production services that are certified to ISO 13485:2003. The company’s products are designed to be used in such applications as ventilators, respirators, sleep apnea monitors, dialysis machines, and other medical equipment. From initial concept to prototype development, the company can accommodate application-specific requirements and offers technical support for small product quantities as well as high-volume serial production. All processes are monitored by a quality-management system. In addition to solenoid valves and pumps, the company’s product range includes pressure, level, flow, force, and air bubble sensors. Multisensor boards and OEM modules that incorporate sensors, valves, pumps, microcontrollers, and other components are also offered. Sensortechnics GmbH, Puchheim, Germany.
Metal Detectable Tape

FDA-compliant metal detectable adhesive tape is suitable for applications that require the use of heat-sealing equipment in conjunction with a metal detector to identify tape failures. Used for packaging medical disposable products, ANROB 254-MDT metal detectable tape features a PTFE-glass fabric with a foil backing and a silicone adhesive, providing a nonstick surface to heat seal against. Offering protection against worn tape falling into a polybag or a package and going undetected, the foil-backed PTFE tape can be identified using a metal detector before the package leaves the manufacturer’s or converter’s facility. Available in rolls ¼ to 39 in. wide × 36 yards long, the tape is 9 mil thick and operates at 500°F continuous. Andrew Roberts Inc., Natick, MA.
Brushless Motor with Integrated Controller

Designed with an integral controller, a brushless motor provides an all-in-one solution for a range of applications in which programmable movement of simple mechanisms is required. Motomate incorporates a Milleneum2 controller, brushless motor drive, motor, and gearbox in a 2½ × 6-in. package. The motor’s efficiency rating of 90% is 50% greater than that of asynchronous motors, according to the manufacturer. In addition, given its compact size, the motor offers a high starting torque. Featuring power electronics incorporated directly inside the unit, the motor does not require an external speed controller, optimizing space for tight product designs. The system is available with a motor range of 30 or 80 W in several configurations to meet all types of required movements. It produces up to 0.3 N•m in the direct-drive configuration, up to 3.5 N•m in the right-angle configuration, and up to 30 N•m in the planetary configuration. Crouzet North America, Vista, CA.
Optical Bonding for LCD Enhancement

Using refractive-index-matched optical (IMO) bonding, a proprietary process applies rigid optical filters such as contrast enhancers, EMI/RFI shielding, and Therma Klear transparent heaters to electronic displays. IMO-bond includes a family of durable, index-matched adhesives that optically couple a cover glass or touch screen to the display to eliminate reflection losses. Most commercial off-the-shelf displays are not designed for direct viewing in high-ambient-light conditions. The IMO-bond process enhances displays when the amount of light they reflect is close to or exceeds the amount of light they emit, according to the company. Under such conditions, the contrast loss can be close to 100%, causing washout as the display’s luminance is exceeded. Optically coupling a contrast-enhancing cover glass to the front polarizer of the display virtually eliminates reflections from the rear surface of the optical filter and the front surface of the display system. The process is suitable for enhancing electronic displays on instrumentation systems used in medical environments. Dontech Inc., Doylestown, PA.
Gamma-Radiation-Resistant RFID Tag

Adding to its line of RFID tags, a supplier offers a model that is designed for identifying and tracking high-volume items that are subjected to multiple doses of gamma radiation for sterilization purposes. The GammTag 500 handles typical doses of 25 kGy and a cumulative dose of at least 500 kGy with no loss of data. With a form factor of just 4 × 52 mm, the read-only tag uses the globally available 2.45-GHz radio frequency. Available as a bare inlay or as a tag that can be converted into various finished constructions, the product is suitable for high-volume items requiring repeated gamma sterilization, such as orthopedic medical devices and surgical equipment. AdvantaPure, Southampton, PA.
